ASTMA WELCOMES NICK CREELY

Thursday 17, Apr 2025

The ASTMA is excited to welcome a new member of staff. Experienced journalist Nick Creely (pictured) has joined the ASTMA team in Clayton, Melbourne and will be assisting editor Brett Robinson with the suite of association publications, including Australian Turfgrass Management Journal and The Cut newsletter.

Originally from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Nick has been a sports journalist for nearly nine years and got his start in the industry working for Star News Group in Melbourne’s southeast. After cutting his teeth there for five-and-a-half years, Nick moved to Warrnambool where he joined The Standard, south-west Victoria’s leading daily newspaper. There he produced digital and print content ranging from award-winning football coverage, netball, cricket, basketball, soccer, speedway racing, cycling and much more. Nick covered a range of elite sport for the organisation, including the 2022 AFL Grand Final between Geelong and Sydney and AFL, Big Bash League and domestic cricket.

Between 2021 and 2023, Nick founded and co-hosted the ‘Pace and Pens’ podcast which provided in-depth coverage and insight into the Victorian Premier Cricket Men’s and Women’s competitions. A total of 49 episodes were produced across its debut season which attracted 20,000 listens and took out a 2021/22 Cricket Victoria Media Award.

“Nick’s extensive grounding in community newspapers and experience working in a daily news room environment will be a tremendous asset for the ASTMA and help to lift the coverage of the industry and its members,” says ASTMA editor Brett Robinson. “Nick has hit the ground running this week and has already produced a number of articles, among them a feature on the recent Sheffield Shield final which will appear in the next edition of ATM.”

Nick will be working with the ASTMA three days a week (Tuesdays-Thursdays) and can be contacted by email nick@astma.com.au or at the office on (03) 9548 8600. Drop him a line if you have any story ideas or news items for publication. The ASTMA welcomes Nick and looks forward to his ongoing contributions.
