Certificate III in Sports Turf Management (AHC31324)

 

The Certificate III in Sports Turf Management (AHC31324) is designed for completion of an Apprenticeship in Sports Turf Management.

This program develops the competencies required to grow and maintain high quality sports turf surfaces such as cricket, rugby league, horse racing, soccer, lawn tennis, lawn bowls and golf courses. 

   

Course Overview

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for trade level roles as a Sports Turf Manager.

Acquire the essential abilities and knowledge necessary to thrive in diverse positions, and develop the skills to advance your professional career. This comprehensive course is designed to enhance your expertise in operating machinery, revitalising turf, establishing new turf areas, identifying plants and weeds, understanding soil composition and plant nutrition, managing pests and diseases, constructing turf surfaces, and maintaining occupational health and safety standards. 

By enrolling in a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management qualification program, you will gain a solid foundation to excel in a range of roles within the sports turf management industry.

This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Entry Requirements

The Australian Sports Turf Managers Association (ASTMA) requires that students: 

  • Have commenced as a licenced apprentice in the vocation of Sports Turf Management (AHC31324) or currently work within Sports Turf Management or related industries, with a training agreement in place.
  • 18 years of age or over and have completed high school or have been provided with an application from the board of studies to enter in the qualification.
  • Complete a language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) assessment to demonstrate that they have the required level of LLN skills required by the course.

Course Information

To receive this qualification, students must complete 18 core units and five elective units.  Elective units have been selected by the Australian Sports Turf Managers Association based in industry requirements and feedback.

 Students will undertake 23 units of competence, including;

  • Operate Machinery and Equipment
  • Implement Soil Improvements
  • Renovate Sports Turf
  • Prepare Sports Turf Surfaces for Play
  • Establish Turf
  • Pest Management
  • Chemical Application (AQF3 Chemical Applicators Licence)
  • Irrigation Operation, Maintenance and Installation 
  • Implement a Plant Nutrition Program
  • Construct Turf Playing Surfaces

Training

Training is conducted in a blended format, weekly (35 weeks per year) over three years. 

Students will undertake weekly online tutorial sessions and meet four times a year at some of the country’s finest sporting venues, as a group to network and complete practical skills training and assessment in block sessions.
