BROOKWATER HOSTS JUNIOR INTERSTATE MATCHES

Brookwater Golf and Country Club superintendent Matt Legge has heaped praise on his staff for producing a quality course for the 2025 Australian Junior Interstate Teams Matches despite ongoing challenges presented by Queensland’s erratic weather. Legge and his crew of around 13 hosted the championships from April 14-17 and had to contend with rain leading into the event.

“We got a lot of rain in the week leading in and then a few days beforehand, so we spent a lot of time fixing up bunkers,” he said. “It was still pretty wet walking the course throughout, but it didn’t really impact anyone. The team did a great job. All the feedback we got from Golf Australia and even the golfers was good. They appreciated how the course presented overall.”

Legge said despite some challenges from the unpredictable weather patterns it was “smooth sailing” for his team.

“The biggest fight we probably had was getting all the bunkers back into play. We spent the week beforehand literally getting the bunkers back up because we’d been so smashed by all the storms,” he said. “On the Sunday before it started, we got hit with more rain but once we got all the bunkers back into play on the first day or so it was smooth sailing to be honest.

“Golf Australia set the course up, they told us where they wanted the pins and tee markers. They set it up how they wanted it, so it was pretty easy for us; we just changed the pins. The main thing for us was maintaining the green speeds. We had them anywhere between 10 and 11. We have some slopy greens at Brookwater, not in all of them but a few tricky ones to deal with.”
