HELP CELEBRATE THE UNSUNG HEROES OF AUSTRALIAN GOLF

Thursday 14, Aug 2025

The Australian Sports Turf Managers Association (ASTMA) is proud to announce the return of the International Thank A Superintendent Day on Tuesday 9 September 2025 – a special opportunity for the golf industry and wider community to recognise and celebrate the dedicated turf management teams who keep Australian golf courses in world-class condition.

Now in its fifth year as a global initiative, Thank A Superintendent Day shines a spotlight on the skill, hard work and passion of sports turf managers, course superintendents and course management teams. These professionals are the unsung heroes of golf – working tirelessly to deliver playing surfaces that enhance the game while protecting the environment and supporting biodiversity.

We invite all Australian golf clubs, members, golfers, suppliers, industry associations and supporters of the game to get involved. The day is not only about saying thank you – it’s also about showing respect for the profession, promoting the vital role that qualified turf managers play, and helping raise awareness of the need for increased understanding, improved conditions and recognition across the industry.

On Tuesday 9 September, we encourage everyone who enjoys the game to share their appreciation on social media using #ThankASuperAUS. Post stories, photos, and messages of thanks – every contribution adds to an international campaign that boosts morale and highlights the importance of turf management in golf.

Clubs, players and industry partners can get involved in many ways, including:
•    Hosting a dedicated breakfast, morning tea or lunch for the course management team
•    Taking time after your round to personally thank a member of the turf management staff
•    Sharing posts and behind-the-scenes content about your course management team
•    Using newsletters, websites and social media to promote the day and recognise your team’s contribution and hard work

This year’s celebration is being delivered in collaboration with global industry bodies, including the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA), Federation of European Golf Greenkeeper Associations (FEGGA) and the British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), representing more than 31,000 golf course management professionals in 78 countries.

While Thank A Superintendent Day comes once a year, our turf managers are working every single day to prepare and protect our golf courses. A simple thank you – whether in person, in writing, or online – can have a lasting impact on morale and help build a culture of understanding, appreciation and respect.
