The 2025 Super Rugby Pacific competition kicked off last week with Allianz Stadium (Sydney) and HBF Park (Perth) hosting two cracking games which were both decided by a point. Both homes sides – the Waratahs and Western Force – came from behind to seal dramatic late wins as all three Australian teams playing in the opening round notched victories. Tonight it is the turn of the Queensland Reds to join them as they take on the Crusaders (NZ) at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane in their opening Super Rugby Pacific match of the new season.
Suncorp Stadium grounds manager Matthew Oliver posted the above photo on LinkedIn, commenting: “As the weather slowly cools, we begin our transition back to the winter code season. Looking forward to welcoming the Queensland Reds back under the lights at Suncorp this Friday night! The next 10 weeks are huge, with 27 matches across three codes – a challenge we’re excited to take on!”
In the latter months of 2024, the Suncorp Stadium pitch was fully resurfaced with HG Turf’s HERO Hybrid Grass after the company was awarded the contract to supply the venue earlier in the year. The field replacement was done in two parts, with 3,300 square metres being replaced after the Travis Scott concert in late October and the remaining 6,500 square metres being installed in late November ahead of the Matilda’s vs Brazil Women’s International Friendly.
